CodeArchy - Codebase to Explainable Interactive Architecture (Open-source)
Learning software engineering often stops at writing code. Junior developers, students, and self-taught engineers can quickly learn to code individual components but typically struggle to grasp high-level system architecture. Mentorship from senior architects is scarce, and diagramming tools require manual effort that junior developers simply don't have the context to perform. On top of this, enterprise and student codebases are often proprietary. Cloud-based AI analysis models require exposing raw IP to external servers, creating significant friction due to privacy concerns and corporate compliance. CodeArchy solves this by leveraging local intelligence. Delivered as a native VS Code Extension, CodeArchy automatically parses local code into a structured dependency node tree and uses a locally-running Gemma 4 model (via Ollama) to act as your personal "Senior Architect-in-a-Box." It creates instant, interactive architectural diagrams and provides a specialized multimodal (text and voice) AI assistant to answer architectural questions, all entirely offline, private, and edge-first.
