Found an interesting way to get the bbpro menu to appear by first loading a game like nova blast or oils well and then pressing the BBpro reset button. At this point the whole bbpro menu comes up properly to select a game.
It reverts to being messed up again if you then reset or power cycle the system until choosing nova blast or another game that happens to work on bringing the menu up properly.
