Though Columbo has enough proof to convict Grace Wheeler (Janet Leigh), she has no recollection of the murder due to her degenerative brain disease and is likely to pass away within a few months. Once knowing this, Ned Daimond (John Payne) decides to falsely admit to the murder in hopes to let Grace live out her remaining time in peace.
