Common errors when using asynchronous FFU

INTRODUCTION Have you ever encountered a situation in the same cleanroom, where one FFU has strong wind and another has weak wind - causing dust to not escape completely, the differential pressure is unstable and the ISO inspection keeps failing? This is the consequence of an asynchronous FFU - a silent but extremely common error in electronics, pharmaceutical and food factories. 2. WHAT IS A SYNCHRONOUS FFU? “Asynchronous” means that the FFUs in the same area do not have the same specifications or control mechanisms. They may differ: Manufacturer Fan speed, nominal air flow Power consumption and noise Even different motor types: AC – EC – or EC with sensor Result: the laminar airflow is broken, dust flies back, and the clean room no longer meets the ISO standard as designed. 4. CONSEQUENCES OF Asynchronous : When FFUs are not synchronized, the consequences are not only in the filtration performance. Here are the 4 most serious consequences: Pressure imbalance: This area has excess wind, the other area lacks wind → the negative/positive pressure difference reverses. Laminar airflow is disturbed: The airflow no longer “goes straight from top to bottom”, creating air vortexes that cause dust to float. High energy consumption: FFUs run at different capacities → total The system must compensate for more electricity. Difficult to maintain and inspect: When measuring ISO, each FFU gives different results, cannot be calibrated together. 3. SOLUTIONS TO REMEDY AND BACKUP To completely overcome the situation of FFU asynchrony, it is necessary to implement 3 solutions in parallel: 1. Standardize the FFU model from the beginning Use the same brand, same motor (EC/AC), same flow. Ensure the same HEPA/ULPA filter size and efficiency. 2. Integrate central control (Master Control Unit) Allow speed setting, monitor the status of each FFU. Synchronize operation of the entire area, save energy. 3. Periodic calibration with differential pressure and wind velocity measuring device Periodic inspection every 6–12 months. When replacing FFU, the entire system must be re-measured to maintain balance. 4. CONCLUSION FFU asynchrony The system is not just a small technical error – but a silent cause that makes the factory lose ISO and GMP standards.
