RETROSPECTIVE LOOKBACK - CHAPTER 288 Specifically requested by a follower of the channel. An excellent funk-enriched late 90s 4/4 roller that was featured on a brilliant 4 track 12" EP released in 1998 on Carl Craig's seminal Planet E Communications. Born in Japan, Nick Calingaert spent most of his formative years living in various places around the world, including Italy, England, and Belgium, before finding a surrogate home in Chicago during the late '90s. It was during these years he that also began a love of collecting rare vinyl with an emphasis on jazz and disco, as well as teaching himself the guitar and studying music theory. His recording debut came in 1996 on the Belgian label SSR, thanks to a collaboration with legendary tech-house producer Spencer Kincy (aka Gemini). Dreams of Elsewhere Recording under the guise Common Factor, Calingaert released two EPs before Detroit-based label Planet E Communications signed him. He would go on to release two EPs with Planet E as well as the full-length Dreams of Elsewhere, which compiled the best of the two EPs and previously unreleased tracks. It was during this time that he also formed a partnership with Chris Nazuka, the result of which became the Retroflex project released by Soma during the late '90s. Dissatisfied with working with other labels and disgusted with the practices of less than reputable ones, he established Tactile Music in 2001. Tactile was a short-lived but critically acclaimed imprint, releasing works by Calingaert under his Common Factor guise as well as a collaboration with tech-house maestro Steve Bug. Calingaert's most recent endeavors include That Was Then, a critically acclaimed Common Factor release on Germany's Playhouse label that featured two tracks previously unreleased from his Planet E tenure. A full-length under his own name is slated for release in 2007. Support Covert Operative by Donation https://www.paypal.com/cgi-bin/webscr...
