Common leveling system errors, that aren’t really errors. Try these before paying for service!
RVs have come a long way with all the fancy gadgets. If you ask me some of them aren’t worth the potential headache. Leveling systems are pretty important though. Not only is an unleveled coach not fun, it’s actually a necessary component in some cases. For instance fifth wheels can’t even hitch without the landing legs, which happen to a part of the leveling system. While these system can be great, they can also be a disaster waiting to happen. Lucky for you, a lot of the issues found with leveling systems are usually a quick fix. In some cases it’s not even a “fix” that’s needed. While components of the leveling system do fail, there are some things that can cause more of a “hiccup”. The situations in this video are some of the common “hiccups” I find. While at the time these are still issues, they are usually east to clear up. They can also usually be cleared up for the low low price of $0. The first tip i mention is low voltage, and I honestly can’t stress this one enough. Low voltage can cause issues with all kind of components, but low voltage first shows itself with systems such as your leveling system. Since everything else is working fine at 11.9 volts, low voltage is often overlooked. It’s also worth mentioning that just because your battery has 12.5 volts with no load, doesn’t mean it stays thee when a load is applied. This is why we use a load tester to test batteries and not a volt meter. A lot of batteries i replace a still hold a charge over 12 volts, but not for very long and not under a load. So don’t let that resting voltage trick you into thinking that your bad batteries are good.
