HELVETAS Bangladesh together with the local partner organisation Uttaran started the project “Strengthening Disaster Resilience at Schools” to enhance the coping capacities and resilience of the community towards disaster.
The project piloted a School-Based Disaster Risk Reduction (DRR) approach, including various activities such as awareness raising in trainings, repair of playgrounds and streets to access schools, youth committees, mock drills, art-book competition on disasters, a mobile health camp and contingency planning. The project helped to reduce the vulnerability and to enhance the capacity of students and the community in multi-hazard disaster preparedness.
