Engine would not run. compression test was less than 65psi. Valve clearance was ok, head gasket ok, Valve seats looked ok but lapped them in anyway, cylinder walls not gouged. Found out that the compression release mechanism was continually bumping exhaust valve reducing compression. Installed a used camshaft purchased on Ebay for $10 and solved the problem.
