CadMakers Virtual Construction presents video #3 in our series of a User Defined Feature (UDF). In this video we highlight the use of UDFs for rebar. UDF’s are fully customizable and reusable parametric tools that can be created on top of CATIA using built in programming capabilities (Visual Basic or VBA for CATIA V5 and Engineering Knowledge Language or EKL for CATIA V6 on the 3DEXPERIENCE platform). When faced with a technical challenge, specifically with regards to complex geometries and the need to create a fabrication level final product, UDF’s can be very powerful tools to simulate live construction in a virtual environment. UDF’s give the user full control and help to understand the nature of interferences/clashes, help identify solutions to those issues and ultimately use automation in the software to streamline time consuming and manual processes, reducing costs and waste.
