Congo River Rapids Queue Line Audio

The classic water rapids ride at Alton Towers Resort was set to re-open in 2023, featuring restored water effects, mechanical upgrades, and a brand-new audio system designed to deliver music throughout the entire attraction. The new soundtrack needed to respect the existing theming of Katanga Canyon, while injecting a renewed sense of adventure and energy for guests. While the area and ride have traditionally drawn inspiration from Africa, there was little in the way of clear narrative. This refresh presented an opportunity for the music to take on a storytelling role. To achieve this, I introduced a new character: Keith Quest, the Congo River Rapid Expedition Leader, who guides guests through the journey via walkie-talkie transmissions as their raft navigates the wild waters. Musically, the score draws inspiration from southern regions of South Africa, while paying homage to the existing Katanga Canyon area audio. The soundtrack features choppy, bright guitar lines, rhythmic horn sections, and a lively dance-driven beat, all set in a major key to uplift and energise the experience seamlessly transitioning as guests travel along the river.
