A cascade control system is a type of control system where two or more controllers are arranged in a hierarchical structure. It's commonly used in industrial process control to improve the performance of a control loop, especially when dealing with processes that have disturbances or delays. Basic Structure: Primary (Master) Controller: Controls the main process variable (e.g., temperature). Secondary (Slave) Controller: Controls a related, faster-responding variable (e.g., flow rate), which affects the main variable. The output of the primary controller becomes the setpoint for the secondary controller. Example: In a heat exchanger system: The primary controller regulates the outlet temperature of the fluid. The secondary controller regulates the flow rate of heating fluid. If a disturbance affects the flow, the secondary controller responds quickly, stabilizing the system before it affects the temperature too much. Advantages: Faster disturbance rejection. Improved system stability and performance. Better control over complex processes. #automation #instrumentation #close_loop #control #control_system #controller #controlengineering #dcs #plc
