One of the more enjoyable aspects of this field for me is doing Piano Touch Design. Haven taken a one-on-one class with David Stanwood in his Martha’s Vineyard shop and working side-by-side with him, we analyzed the piano action and keyboard of a Steinway D grand to create the perfect touch for the piano. I learned many valuable techniques from this man and a greater understanding of the balancing of the piano action. Over the many years since, this has established itself as a key component of my restoration process.
