Reimagining Rural India through Science: CSIR Smart Village Project India’s rural transformation is entering a new era—powered not just by infrastructure, but by science, technology, and innovation. The Council of Scientific and Industrial Research (CSIR) has launched the Smart Village Project, beginning from Sawaipura (Rajasthan), with a vision aligned to Viksit Bharat @ 2047. The initiative aims to convert villages into self-reliant, climate-resilient, and technology-enabled ecosystems. What makes it unique? Unlike conventional schemes, this is a lab-to-land mission, where proven CSIR technologies are deployed directly in villages based on local needs. Key Focus Areas: • Climate-resilient and affordable housing • Smart & sustainable agriculture • Water management and sanitation • Renewable energy (solar, biomass) • Digital services (telemedicine, e-governance) • Rural livelihoods and skill development Pilot across diverse regions: Sawaipura, Rajasthan, Kusunpur, Orissa, Janakipur, Madhya Pradesh, Jonaki Mondal, Assam, Sil/Sunani, Himachal Pradesh Why it matters: This initiative bridges the long-standing gap between research institutions and grassroots implementation, creating scalable models for rural transformation.
