This is a very cool cricket. It's called a Handsome Trig, or a Red-Headed Bush Cricket. With its bold coloring, huge external mouthparts called palps, and mismatched wings, it's a truly unique insect. It's left the experts with some questions, like why the palps are so big and why it has coloring that draws attention. I never saw one chirping (and I haven't been able to find one in weeks), so I couldn't get a shot of their one black wing and one transparent wing, but I'm going to keep looking. If Handsome Trigs are in your area, they'll usually be a few feet off the ground in a bush.
