Cyber Physical System

Did you know that is possible to detect traffic accidents from distant control rooms using road side infrastructure?    That doctors can monitor cardiac patients via specialised mobile apps.? Well, all these are possible through  technologies based on the emerging field of cyber physical systems or CPS.  In turn it is part of the fourth industrial revolution which builds on the digital revolution and applies various disruptive technologies like cloud computing technology, Big data analytics, human –machine interaction, robotics and automation to advanced engineering and manufacturing. Given the potential of cyber information systems and India’s focus on leveraging science and technology to spur economic growth and development across the country, the Union Cabinet chaired by Prime Minister Shri. Narendra Modi launched the National Mission on Interdisciplinary Cyber-Physical Systems (NM-ICPS) in 2018 with an outlay of Rs. 3660 crores. To accomplish this mission the Department of Science and Technology under the Ministry of Science and Technology, Government of India established 25 Technology Innovation Hubs (TIHs) in the leading academic and research and development institutes of the country and internationally. The missions objective is not only to make India a leading player in CPS technologies but to ensure that CPS technologies are leveraged for societal and commercial use, nurture start-ups and to produce the next generation of highly skilled technocrats in CPS technologies.
