Cyberstorm is a futuristic robot-versus-robot fighting game set in a sci-fi tournament format. Warbots from various planets battle for the honor of facing Quadra, the champion of the Teldan Empire. Defeating Quadra prevents assimilation by the empire. Players select from a roster of six playable warbots, Deadeye, Zaltan, Nitro, GX-2, Tarsys, and Vandal, each with distinct designs, move sets, strengths, and playstyles. The game supports single-player arcade progression against AI opponents and two-player simultaneous versus matches. The control scheme uses a standard six-button layout with a joystick: typically three punch buttons (quick, medium, strong) and three kick buttons of varying strength, along with special move inputs that combine directional commands and button presses. Each character has basic attacks, command normals, throws, and unique special moves, including projectiles, rushes, anti-air attacks, and powerful finishers. Combos are possible through chaining normals into specials or using specific linking opportunities, though the prototype nature results in some inconsistencies in balance and execution. GX-2, for example, stands out in playthroughs for effective diving attacks and strong overall performance in clearing the single-player mode. A defining gameplay mechanic is the limb-targeting and destruction system. Individual arms and legs on the robotic fighters can be damaged and severed independently from the core torso health. This creates visible damage states, such as sparks, missing limbs, or altered appearances—and directly impacts functionality. Losing a leg impairs movement speed and jumping, while losing an arm disables or weakens certain attacks tied to that limb. Matches are structured in rounds. When a player wins two rounds against the opponent, the game prompts a Termination phase. During this limited window, the player has until the opponent’s stun meter drops to zero to perform a Termination move, which awards bonus points and features a unique animation. Terminations are more complex to execute than standard specials and must be performed at a precise distance from the opponent. Each of the main playable characters has its own dedicated termination command. It remains unclear whether boss characters possess their own termination moves. The game runs on custom hardware with sprite-based graphics in horizontal orientation and mono audio. As a prototype, it exhibits typical unfinished elements, including occasional stiffness in controls, rough animation transitions, and areas lacking final polish or fine-tuned balancing.
