Go watch the video before this one, "Cutting the Tip off an Antler Tine Using a Stone Chisel (Experimental)". In that video I take a flake from the chisel I was making in Part 5 and use it in this video to make a Dalton in a way that I think many Dalton's were made. It is a very efficient way of producing many Dalton's from a single core. Back then, I imagine that a person was in charge of spalling. And then, depending on how that spall turned out they may hand it to a person that can go straight to pressure like I did or they may hand it to a person who has a small sandstone hammerstone that does some needed percussion to turn it into a preform first, before pressure. Then after the pressure is done the Dalton blank is handed off to a person who puts the base in. It's a very efficient and quick method of producing many Dalton's from a single core. Not just one point from a rock like many knappers are used to seeing today. I imagine that the old guys, using a team of people, could produce a single Dalton in 15 to 20 minutes and possibly in as little as 10. I made mine in 30 and I'm slow. Making Dalton's using this process would also maximize the length of each Dalton, leaving less debitage on the floor. Hope you enjoy. :)
