Damper is a traditional Australian soda bread, historically prepared by swagmen, drovers, stockmen and other such travelers. Original dampers consisted of just plain flour, salt and water and were cooked in the coals of a campfire or in a camp oven. However, today's version including self-raising flour and butter came along much later!
