This is an automaton representing the account of Shadrach, Meshach and Abed-Nego as written in Daniel chapter 3. It is a great illustration of faith and trust in God and not backing away from your beliefs in face of adversity. The counter rotating flames are made from aluminum flashing and are sharp. They are driven by pin gears and concentric shafts. I've had this idea in my head for a while and was a bit stumped by how to support the wheels that the flames were mounted to and the pin gears. I discovered a piece called "What a Wonderful World" by a fellow automata artist, Karen Barkie that gave me the answers and inspiration to go for it.
