Dazzle Midge Fly Tying Tutorial
This is a great addition to your fly box! It is a simple, fast, attractor pattern. I fished these heavily on some trout lakes and found great success. The way I tie it in the video shows you the quickest way to finish the fly. In the video I also skimp out on some ways to make the fly more durable. If you'd like to know how to make it stronger here are two ways. 1) Before you begin wrapping the tinsel put a dab of Super Glue down on the hook shank. This will help the wire and the tinsel bind to the hook and help it all stay in place. 2) Before you put on the dubbing, coat the body with a thin layer of UV resin. Hit the UV with your light then finish off the fly. When you do both of those things you have a fly that will last longer than a cockroach. This pattern was influenced by many other flies: the Rainbow Warrior, Zebra Midge, Collaborator, just to name a few. I typically carry it in two color schemes. 1) What you see in the video, and 2) Rainbow Warrior. I fish this under an indicator or loch style from a boat without an indicator. Either way it fishes great!
