Death By Design (2002) - Split E.P. Interlock / Needleye
From 2000-2006 I was a guitarist in Industrial Death Metal band Needleye. During that time we became friends with the wonderful people in Interlock and released this split E.P with them in 2002. To accompany this we went on a week-long, gig-a-night joint headline tour around the UK... and, as any one who has been in a band will know, things didn't always go to plan. But from our 1-person audience in Sheffield to a sold-out Camden Barfly this was probably the most enjoyable week I ever had in a band. Some memories, like recording 'Beast' at 2am on a Saturday night at Berry street studios, will stay with me forever. And I have to give a special mention to John Tyrell of Interlock for his amazing mixing and mastering work. The quality he managed to achieve here with the equipment he had access to is a testament to his talent. Remember, back in 2002 VSTs were still in the very early stages of being useable for those on a budget... even Ozone 1 had only just been released, to give you some idea of how far things have come. The early 2000's were a difficult time for metal bands as the industry was reeling from the massive drop in revenue due to file-sharing and the constantly changing landscape of evolving websites. Ultimately neither band managed to overcome these difficulties and fulfil our potential, but I hope some of those involved find this video and remember the good old days. Some personnel went on to other projects which have survived a bit further into the digital age so check them out: from Interlock (at the time of this album) John Tyrell - Khaidian (https://www.youtube.com/@Khaidian) Hal Sinden - Talanas (https://www.youtube.com/@talanasband) Syan - Tribazik (https://www.youtube.com/@TRIBAZIK) And their guest drummer for the tour, Tori Lucion of Kingsize Blues (https://youtube.com/playlist?list=PLUOchLAFGAfJ-h8VjUCsyB9MlyO0Fp8wL) from Needleye (at the time of this album) Duncan Wilkinson (https://www.youtube.com/@CollapseEngland) Rich Gorbutt (I think he's still in Zofff but I can't find a youtube channel for them) And of course my projects Landsraad and The Arkham Rebellion. Toni Kikka retired to become a Viking in Denmark, where he can be found hunting vegans and drinking neat petrol (that's him doing the opera in the middle of Beast). Final shoutout to Giles @ArmalyteIndustries , the long-suffering and perpetually-tired Needleye manager. Track List: 1) Divide (Interlock) 0:00 2) Dissolve (Needleye) 5:33 3) Further from Reason (Interlock) 10:03 4) Drain (Needleye) 15:10 5) Death by Design (Interlock/Needleye) 19:30 6) Beast (track 66 The hidden track - Interlock/Needleye) 22:58
