I spent the last couple days getting a DEC VXT2000 X terminal set up, cabled and bootable. It's much, much harder than you'd think and involves an absurd rigamarole of setting up multiple emulated DEC machines including a VAX and InfoServer in order to get the *correct* boot server setup. There's no way to simplify the process, because this thing actually uses the InfoServer as *swap space* due to its extremely limited local RAM. You can run it in "Host Mode" where it does not do this, but supposedly it's a worse experience so I haven't tried it yet. Anyway, here's what it looks like to boot up from cold and connect to an HP-UX machine. Notice that it takes over six minutes to get into a session - I have no idea if that's normal, but I suspect it is for the era (~1994.) Also, I don't know why the entire CDE session doesn't appear - the panel and desktop background don't show up, and there's no obvious way to get to an app launcher, so I suspect this is not the intended experience.
