The thing I love about Spencerian is the gorgeous capital letters, which give so many character to the script. Today I’m going to show a tutorial / how-to for a simple five-step method I’ve developed to help deconstruct and ultimate execute a capital letter. If you follow me on Instagram, a while back I did 26 Spencerian capitals in 26 days, so this is a method I developed during that challenge to give myself a methodical approach to being able to do these letters.
5 step approach:
Choosing a letter
Analysing the letter (are pen lifts needed, identifying the ovals, observing the negative space, identifying the line intersections)
Visualising the letter
Executing it in pencil
Executing it in ink
