Dementia Awareness
🧠 What is Dementia? It’s NOT a single disease. It’s a general term for memory loss & thinking problems severe enough to affect daily life. It’s NOT normal aging. --- 🟢 4 Most Common Types: 1. Alzheimer’s (60-80%) – Trouble remembering recent events & conversations. 2. Vascular (10-20%) – Caused by strokes; trouble planning & focusing. 3. Lewy Body (5-10%) – Seeing things (hallucinations) + movement problems like tremors. 4. Frontotemporal (5%) – Major personality changes or trouble speaking (often in younger people). --- 🟢 How is it Managed? ❌ No cure yet. But quality of life can improve. Do this first (no meds): · Keep a daily routine · Reduce clutter & use labels · Speak calmly & simply · Go for walks or do puzzles · Check for pain, hunger, or boredom before reacting to behavior Medications (doctor-guided): · Help slow symptoms in Alzheimer’s · Treat depression or severe aggression (used carefully) Most important: Caregivers NEED support too. Respite care & support groups save lives. --- ⚠️ See a doctor if you notice memory loss. It could be something treatable like a vitamin deficiency or thyroid problem. 💙 Share to spread awareness.
