Evolved Antennas are antennas designed using an evolutionary algorithm. Just as evolution works in nature, we can make a program to evolve an antenna to get optimal performance. We do this because designing antennas is very hard and not very straightforward. Making one small change can entirely alter the performance of your antenna. With this being said, using evolutionary algorithms in conjunction with Numerical Electromagnetics Code (NEC), specifically NEC2++, we can arrive at an optimized antenna for a given frequency. This project was entirely created by myself and I was inspired to do so when I heard that NASA employed evolved antennas in a 2006 mission. Otherwise, not much has been done on evolved antennas.
