Designing Data-Intensive Applications - Batch Processing [Virtual]
SDML Book Club ================ Designing Data-Intensive Applications https://www.oreilly.com/library/view/designing-data-intensive-applications/9781491903063/ Data is at the center of many challenges in system design today. Difficult issues need to be figured out, such as scalability, consistency, reliability, efficiency, and maintainability. In addition, we have an overwhelming variety of tools, including relational databases, NoSQL datastores, stream or batch processors, and message brokers. What are the right choices for your application? How do you make sense of all these buzzwords? For this meetup, we will be discussing the O'Reilly classic Designing Data-Intensive Applications by Martin Kleppmann. This week we will discuss batch processing, including map reduce and the complexities of partitioning and joins. Everyone is welcome to participate! Feel free to join the weekly conversation, even if you didn't do the reading. ================= Agenda ================= - 12:00 - 12:15 pm -- Arrival and socializing - 12:15 - 1:30 pm -- Discuss chapter 10: Batch Processing - Time permitting -- Breakout discussions Links to chapter notes and videos of prior meetups are available on the SDML GitHub repo https://github.com/SanDiegoMachineLearning/bookclub ================= Location ================= This will be an online meetup until further notice. ================= Questions? ================= Join our slack channel or leave a comment below if you have any questions about the group or need clarification on anything. https://join.slack.com/t/sdmachinelearning/shared_invite/zt-6b0ojqdz-9bG7tyJMddVHZ3Zm9IajJA
