While Power BI has supported developing custom visuals for years, the developer experience for creating custom visuals has just gone through a significant update with the version 3 release of the Power BI Visuals tools (PBIVIZ). This video examines how version 3 changes the Node.js project structure for a custom visual and explains how the version 3 tools incorporate webpack into the build process making it possible to develop custom visuals using the latest version of D3.js as well as any other modern JavaScript library that requires dynamic module loading. Along the way, the video will explains the process for migrating older custom visual projects created with version 2 to the new project structure to take advantage of new version 3 features.
