Tut 5: https://youtu.be/s_v_f4wRNhQ Develop the lateral surface of pentagonal base prism having base edge 20 and height 60 (resting on its base on HP with one of its base edge parallel to VP). Further, the prism is transacted by cutting plane which is passing through the midpoint of the axis at the angle of 45°. 1. Development of Surface – Theory Development of surface is the process of unfolding or unrolling the outer surfaces of a three-dimensional solid onto a flat plane without any distortion. The developed surface shows the true shape and true size of each face of the solid. Development of surfaces is mainly used in sheet metal work, where flat sheets are cut and then bent to form required shapes. 2. Parallel Line Method The parallel line method is used to develop the surfaces of solids that have parallel edges. Solids developed by this method: Prism & Cylinder Principle: In this method, the edges of the solid are parallel to each other, and the development is obtained by drawing parallel lines equal to the length of the generators. 3. Radial Line Method The radial line method is used to develop the surfaces of solids that have slant edges meeting at a common point (apex). Solids developed by this method: Pyramid & Cone Principle: In this method, the slant edges act as radii, and the development is drawn by rotating these edges about the apex to obtain the developed surface. 4. Practical Applications of Development of Surface 1. Development of surfaces is widely used in: 2. Sheet metal fabrication 3. Boiler and tank construction 4. Ducts, chimneys, and funnels 5. Automobile body parts 6. Packaging industry 7. HVAC systems 8.
