Devil’s Thirst (original song)
Hey everyone! 🤎 Here’s a song that I wrote called ‘Devil’s Thirst’ about addiction. I just recorded this in studio as part of my next release. In these times when the aim is to divide and distract, stay rooted in what’s real. Hold your ground. Don’t let the poisons around you become the ones within you. Lyrics: Daddy had a hard hand He cut his golden teeth He built the stables lay the planks beneath our feet Yet mama whispered through a veil of crimson blue Your daddy loves the bottle more than you When I was a young girl, but seventeen and one A low road rounder that I loved he grabbed his gun He pulled that pistol, spared no inch of me, and left While I smelled the bottle lingering on his heavy breath a crimson veil a lace-made curse A mother’s child upon the hearse She ain’t the last and ain’t the first oh devil’s thirst, has done its worst Black crow she carries more than just the night She carries memories of his tooth, his tongue, his bite Yet I met another, I fell into his arms When he said he loved me, my stone cold heart felt warm For years I held him, for years I shared his bed For years I’d trusted that one day we’d be wed Yet he wrote a letter, rode a freight to Tennessee For he loved the bottle more than me A swinging of the spaded tail It stirs where luring devils dwell Is this home or is this hell oh devil’s thirst, i’ve come to know you well Her lips they burn him, they breathe him back to life While mine are tender, they’re soft, yet cold as ice Kiss of the moonshine, her blessed breath so sweet Now drinks the down the bottle, the way he once did me A lonesome ghost, a debt unpaid A name now lost, a bed unmade No prayer to speak, no hand to play Oh devil’s thirst, you’ve dug my true love’s grave
