Diabetes Services: Understanding Type 1 & Type 2 Diabetes

Join Riverside Diabetes Educator Kim Denny as she explains the different types of diabetes. She notes that Tyoe 1 Diabetes (T1D) is an autoimmune disease where the body doesn't make its own insulin. Type 2 Diabetes (T2D) is when a body's blood sugar levels have been too high, impacting the ability of the body to make enough insulin to convert that blood glucose to energy. While indivudal living with T1D all have to take insulin to survive, individuals living with T2D may or may not have to take insulin, depending on how well managed their diabetes is with diet and lifestyle changes.
