Directional Influence : An Application Guide
This guide doesn't precisely explain what Directional Influence is, nor does it provide the game's mechanics and technical data (frame input). For all this stuff, visit this: http://www.smashboards.com/showthread.php?t=80947 This is only a guide explaining how to apply DI in matches, that's why some imprecisions purposedly remain (for example, it wasn't mentioned that Slide DI not only allows for faster inputs, but also allows more DIing frames). I forgot Link's usmash in the "Special Cases", but it doesn't really matter. You should DI infront or behind (I've heard contradictory things about this) to avoid the last hit, the one with potential follow up. All the directions given here shouldn't be taken as a dogma, they are only suggestions (which most often work well and were discussed with more advanced players) and other variations could work just as well. For an example on how to hold the controller to DI watch this: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=O8F13WU6ERY For more information about applying reverse ledge DI, visit this: http://www.smashboards.com/showthread.php?t=264886 For more information about the game in general (advanced techniques, online play, etc.) visit this: http://www.smashboards.com/showthread.php?t=262536 If you have any questions, ask there: http://www.smashboards.com/showthread.php?t=237869 Credits to: AntD: provided the most important DI info Battlecow: gave me the idea of making the video Mahie: how to DI Fox's Up Air malva00: how to DI samus's UpB Nintendude: reverse ledge DI Star King: introduced Positional Influence long ago Others: anyone else I forgot (those who first said how to DI a given move) Bonus: what happens in the very last clip?
