Disembodied gaze
Disembodied gaze (2020) is produced using new techniques for the analysis and manipulation of generative networks (called Network Bending). Here, a network that generates photorealistic faces has been analysed and the components that are responsible for generating eyes have been isolated and remain static, while all the other components have been turned off. When the network generates the final images, it attempts to fill in the blank areas based on the appearance of the eyes, creating a textural field that matches the identity of the person being generated, leaving only the traces of a silhouette. The video plots a course through various generated identities, that can only be recognised from their bodiless gaze. More info: https://terencebroad.com/works/disembodied-gaze
