DIY soil blocker

When they talk about soil blocking, they are telling the truth! The seedlings really do grow strong! Plus- you gain space and can stop buying seed trays. 😃 I do plan to buy a metal soil blocker which gives a cleaner cut and more compacted cube; this was only an experiment for my first time. I can’t find any shops here in the EU that have 2cm blockers- if you know of any, please let me know! Note: if you plan to do this, I would suggest looking up how to prepare your seed mix; it needs to be a bit more wet and sticky. There are tons of tutorials out there. My original inspiration to consider soil blocking was from The Gardener’s Workshop. Lisa shares tons of tips on how to grow cut flowers using soil blocking. One particular tip that I appreciate is the importance of watering the trays (not the block itself) in the morning so that the roots drink in the morning and then breathe at night.
