Djabugay and Western Yalangi artist and cultural leader Djawarray shares a powerful cultural story - 'Wulman Wulman', taken from his album Magayin (Stand & Rise).
In 2026, Djawarray was recognised as Regional Artist of the Year at the Queensland Music Awards, with Wulman Wulman also named a finalist in the World Music category.
Filmed on Djabugay Country in Far North Queensland (KURANDA FNQ REGION), the song carries an old story passed down through generations. It follows an initiated man travelling from the Savannah Country toward Cairns, moving respectfully through Djabugay Country where he is welcomed, cared for, and given safe passage on his journey.
At its heart, Wulman Wulman speaks to respect, kinship, cultural law and connection to Country. Through music, dance and storytelling, the project celebrates the strength of Rainforest Bama culture and the importance of carrying these stories forward for the next generation.
The video features Djawarray alongside the Mayi Wunba Dance Troupe and members of the wider Djabugay community, whose involvement shaped every part of the production — from performance and cultural knowledge, to the making of traditional artefacts and structures seen throughout the clip.
