This video is a presentation for my STA 500 Data Visualization project. Using the msleep dataset (derived from Savage & West, 2007) and an interactive R Shiny dashboard, I conduct an Exploratory Data Analysis to answer a fundamental biological question: Do mammals sleep differently based on their environmental niche? In this presentation, I explore how an animal's diet, body weight, and conservation status impact their Total Sleep and REM Sleep requirements. 📊 Key Findings: Diet heavily dictates sleep consistency. Body mass strictly restricts sleep duration (demonstrated via Log10 transformation). REM sleep is highly conserved across almost all mammalian species. ⏱️ Timestamps / Chapters: 0:00 - Introduction & The Dataset 1:00 - Tab 0: The Animal Skimmer (Extreme Outliers) 2:20 - Tab 1: Distributions (Total Sleep vs. REM Sleep) 4:00 - Tab 2: Group Comparisons (Diet & Consistency) 5:45 - Tab 3: Relationships (Body Weight & The Log10 Scale) 7:30 - Tab 4: Small Multiples (Conservation Status) 8:30 - Conclusion & Key Takeaways 🛠️ Tools Used: R, RStudio, Shiny, ggplot2, Plotly, dplyr.
