Sermon on I John 2:3-6
John’s objective standard for assurance of salvation. It is not a test you study for, but one that grows naturally from within a true child of God. John doesn't leave our assurance up to fluctuating human feelings, which can change based on sleep or small daily circumstances. A religious claim to know God without a repentant desire to honor His commands is a spiritual counterfeit. While Christians will still fight temptation and fail at times, a true believer cannot live comfortably or happily in a continuous state of unrepentant sin. We do not obey God's commands so that He will love or save us; rather, obedience is the natural fruit and proof that a mature love for God has taken hold of our hearts
