Dockside Dirge Session 6 (The Curio Crawl)
[Verse I] The party woke to daylight’s gleam, the shop still smelling sweet, Valen stirred the morning pots, a warm and welcome treat. Thunk marched off to honest work, Corvus climbed his stage, Soapbox set, he strummed a tune to draw folks in like sage. Vayne kept pace behind the bar, her hands a steady blur, Blub counted flour, spice, and dough—each labeled, neat, and sure. A quiet day, a gentle hum, the dockside calm and fair, But fate was brewing mischief in the evening’s salted air. [Chorus] Oh sing, my friends, of wandering hearts, Of courage bought and sold, Of flowers held like newborn pups, And tabs paid out in gold. From Teas & Tonics’ humble hearth To Curio’s velvet hall— We stumble, drink, and laugh our way Through life’s great tavern crawl! [Verse II] When work was done, dear Thunk set out to find a blossom fair, Into the woods he wandered deep with hope and messy hair. He plucked wild blooms with gentle hands, a kitten’s careful grace, Then hurried back to Valen’s door with panic on his face. “Where’s the pretty lady live?” he asked with earnest plea, Valen checked the planters first—“You didn’t pick from these?” But Thunk just smiled and shook his head, his flowers wild and true, And off they marched toward Curio’s lights, the evening breaking through. [Verse III] A bugbear blocked the entrance with a grunt and folded arms, But Ugga heard the party’s noise and strode in with alarm. He rounded fast upon the scene, half-ready for a brawl, But peace was made, the doors swung wide, and velvet draped the hall. Valen bought a drink for Thunk—“For courage,” he declared, Then slipped away with guards in tow to speak with Madam there. The others lingered, sipping slow, the lanterns warm and low, While Thunk described the lady fair he longed so much to know. [Verse IV] Vayne took pity on the lad and went to seek his muse, Through curtains, halls, and whispered rooms she followed every clue. At last she found the woman fair and waved for Thunk to come— But Thunk was drunk and wobbling now, his balance nearly done. He leaned too far, he pitched ahead, he tried to run upright, A stumbling, tumbling minotaur of drunken, earnest might. Ugga sighed and braced again, the night a second test, But Thunk just paid the bugbear’s tab and hoped he’d done his best. [Chorus] Oh sing, my friends, of wandering hearts, Of courage bought and sold, Of flowers held like newborn pups, And tabs paid out in gold. From Curio’s halls to dockside steps, We rise, we trip, we fall— But still we sing, and still we drink, Through life’s great tavern crawl! [Verse V] They staggered from the Curio, the moon a blurry smear, Thunk asked if she worked every night—the manager unclear. Vayne paid her tab with grace, the staff bid warm goodbyes, And out they went into the night with swirling, glassy eyes. At Teas & Tonics’ bottom steps poor Thunk began to sway, Then emptied all his stomach’s woes in quite a public way. Some passersby just pointed, laughed—till Thunk kicked back in spite, And splashed a stranger’s pant leg in the middle of the night. [Final Chorus] Oh sing, my friends, of wandering hearts, Of courage bought and sold, Of flowers held like newborn pups, And tabs paid out in gold. From drunken steps to tabletop beds, We answer adventure’s call— Then pass out cold till morning comes… Such is the tavern crawl! Lyrics written by me.
