The Chthonic is designed for single-coils (P90’s, Strats, gold-foils, DeArmond, etc. But also works well with low output PAF style humbuckers too. The clean-up is its main strength, it can get a nice variety of semi-clean to OD tones with a nice character. I was also trying for to give “weight” to single-note leads above the 12th fret. Some fuzzes get really wimpy with single-coils and higher lead notes.
It is silicon: a pair of 2N2222’s, and the Lustre control is tuned specifically for single-coils, and brighter amp channels. It started out from the vintage Colorsound one-knob Fuzz Box. As we started tweaking we added a Gain and a tone (Luster) and it turned into something else.
