How risky is a D&C for future fertility? 🤔 A new study tracked 58,607 women who underwent dilation and curettage (D&C) and found that only 0.8% developed scar tissue inside the womb (intrauterine adhesions). That's much lower than previous estimates! However, if you've had multiple D&Cs, the risk increases: • 2 D&Cs → ~4× higher risk • 3 or more D&Cs → ~12× higher risk Factors like obstetric reasons for the D&C or a history of pelvic inflammatory disease can also increase the likelihood of adhesions. So, if you're facing a D&C, remember: - For most women, one well-performed D&C has low risk. - If you've had several D&Cs or risk factors, consider discussing alternatives and follow-up checks. You deserve clear information to make informed decisions about your fertility journey! Would these numbers change how you view a D&C? 💭 #miscarriagecare #womenshealth #fertilityjourney #obgyn #reproductivehealth #informedconsent Chen S, Samiezade-Yazd Z, Triplett C, Joshi N.
