Are you making hive changes too quickly? 🐝 Before you add brood, feed syrup, remove frames, or “fix” a colony that doesn’t look right — watch this. In this video, I break down the three critical environmental factors you must evaluate before making in-hive manipulations: 1️⃣ Weather patterns – Have conditions supported foraging? 2️⃣ Rainfall levels – Has there been enough moisture for nectar production? 3️⃣ Forage availability – Are you in a dearth, minor flow, or full nectar flow? Too often, beekeepers react to what they see during inspections without considering the environmental forces shaping the colony. A light brood nest, reduced population, or slower expansion isn’t always a problem — it may be a colony responding appropriately to external conditions. Just like a mechanic diagnoses the root cause before replacing parts, we need to diagnose before we manipulate.
