He won the Mr. Olympia title six consecutive times from 1992 and holds the fourth-highest number of Mr. Olympia awards of all time, ranking behind Ronnie Coleman (8), Lee Haney (8), and Arnold Schwarzenegger (7) respectively. He is widely considered one of the top athletes in modern bodybuilding history. Yates' professional record consists of 15 major contest wins and two second-place finishes. His career ended in large part due to chronic acute injuries, including a torn biceps and triceps, the latter just three weeks prior to his final contest, the 1997 Mr. Olympia contest, which he won in spite of the injury. Yates espoused a style of training known as HIT "High Intensity Training," which states that maximum muscle stimulation can be reached through short, high-intensity workout sessions rather than long duration workouts. The training style was originally popularized by Mike Mentzer. Yates earned the nickname of "The Shadow" for his tendency unexpectedly to appear at major bodybuilding contests and win, despite having remained out of the public eye for long periods beforehand. He was reported to have turned down several large supplement endorsement contracts and avoided interviews and other television publicity in order to maintain privacy. ★ ► Dorian Yates was born on April 19, 1962 in the small rural village of Hurley about 20 miles from Birmingham in the UK. Following his Fathers death in 1978, a young sixteen year old Dorian moved with his mother and sister from an idyllic country lifestyle to the tough industrial city of Birmingham. Thus began the dark days for Dorian. In an era of punk and wayward youth, Dorian's new life on the streets of Birmingham soon found him in trouble with the authorities. Realising he was no longer the indestructible teenage boy he thought he was, Dorian knew he faced some serious choices ... a life behind bars or a life of freedom. This became the defining moment that would change the course of Dorian's life and Mr. Olympia history forever. Dorian's competitive journey began eighteen months after he started training. Uncertain of his potential, Dorian entered his first local show as a novice only to be told by officials that he should have been competing in the men's open heavyweight division. In hindsight, looking at the competitors he met that first night, he knew they were right. The enigma often referred to as 'the shadow' and 'British bulldog' had arrived. Humble and quietly spoken, Dorian continued to appear out of nowhere, annihilate the opposition and then disappear to make ready for his next competition. Taking no time to bask in his glory, Dorian was intent on achieving only one thing, and that was to WIN. He returned time and again to dominate the '90s with six consecutive Mr.Olympia titles from 1992-1997. To this day the '90s are referred to as the 'Dorian Decade'. ★ Dorian Yates Seated Pulley Row - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pOBicLxknq8 ★ Dorian Yates Back Workout - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dwA8faQimNM ★ Dorian Yates Leg Extension - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=R2310-3dhmE ★ Dorian Yates Stiff-Leg Deadlift - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ph27lfoM2TA #dorianyates
