This shows the manual method of making a helix. Then gives it a form and mirrors it to create a cage like structure.
I've used Eneroth's Upright Extruder which keeps the shape better than basic follow me.
And I used Fredo6''s Curvizard to weld the helices. Any weld plugin would work.
