The Platinum Music Awards were honored to salute the late Dr. Kempter at the 2017 ceremony. One of New Mexico's most outstanding music educators, he was at the helm of the Albuquerque Youth Symphony Program for more than 50 year. In 1989 Dr. Kempter was New Mexico's Music Educator of the Year
