Draw Anything with Negative Space

Welcome to Draw Tip Tuesday! We all have those things we’re “bad at” in our sketchbook practice. My weak spot is drawing animals. So I joined a fun online workshop with illustrator Emma Carlisle (via London Drawing Group) to practice cats. Lots of cats. And I'm not even a cat person! In this Draw Tip Tuesday, I’ll walk you through a simple way to draw animals by focusing on negative space (=the shapes around your subject) so you can capture them without stressing about accuracy. You’ll see my workshop pages (including the cringe-y ones I didn’t hide!) and follow along as I draw a cat in my sketchbook. Whether you’re into animals or not, this technique works for all kinds of subjects. In today's video, also share a tip for knowing when to stop before you overwork a drawing.
