Drilling acrylic is very difficult. Acrylic is a brittle material that will often splinter track and even break. This video analyzes six popular drillbit types and has a clear winner for successful drilling in acrylic. Even though step point bits are suggested for acrylic I found that the forstner bits left the superior hole without a doubt. They left behind a very clean edge with no splintering and no shipping and no breaking. Standard drill bits and split point bits were very unsuccessful and cracked and broke the acrylic.
