DRIVING THE CUMMINS COMMAND
Dear Viewer, Around 1990 there were big changes in truck technology. Highways in Eastern Australia were opening up to B-Double access and engine tech was transforming from high rpm power black smoke engines to computer managed high-torque engines. Moving from high rpm power to high torque peaks at lower revs was a bit of a culture shock to us on the road at the time (30 years ago now, bloody hell!). The benefits of the computer managed engines became obvious: Better economy and reduced emissions. However engine manufacturers were having trouble selling the changes required in driving technique to drivers. So in Australia, Cummins Engines employed me to produce a video to explain the benefits of the changes. So I made this video around 1990 and I was also the driver / guinea pig in the video, attempting to sort it all out. This was a time of change and this vid is now a bit of history. Enjoy, all the best, Bruce (Honeywill).
