The ideas in this video are from Bill Bachman's Extreme Hands Makeover which I strongly recommend you check out: https://drumworkout.com/courses/extreme-hands-makeover 0:00 - Intro 0:04 - What is drop catch? 0:32 - The importance of holding the stick loosely 1:15 - Where do we use drop catch the most when drumming? 3:15 - How do we practice this? 4:07 - Exercise together starts 5:00 - How to get your left hand (or weak hand) to cooperate 6:03 - What is the second exercise we're doing today? 8:30 - A third exercise you can do to practice triples Prerequisites to this video: How to play a free stroke/rebound stroke - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RNXK0MOhN8M&t=7s Stringing free strokes together - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Joqj0-4VLz0 Fingers part 1 - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=slET14eFhJQ Fingers part 2 - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gMTuIVwAtWE Stopping the stick - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZNRCYC5wwMo Accents and taps - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_qRPO5LJud0 Buzz rolls - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HcPo3QYwLLw Here we're going to learn the drop catch motion, also known as push pull. We first drop the stick down, then we use our fingers to pull it back up. This helps us when playing shuffles doubles and triples. Remember, if you've rushed through the previous lessons, trying to learn this won't be very effective. Go back and spend the time needed to get the hang of the earlier stuff, and learning this will be a much smoother process.
