After building a circuit around the raw DS1307 Real Time Clock chip on a breadboard, we now look at making a more permanent solution on a custom-made PCB. We look at the final schematic and PCB design in EasyEDA, showing both 2D and 3D renderings. Next, we assemble the module by soldering all the components to the PCB. Then we test it out to make sure everything is still working. We also take a look at the 56 bytes of non-volatile SRAM where we can store data such as system settings. I demonstrate how to store strings, 8bit integers, and 16bit integers into the RAM, as well as dumping all the RAM data to the screen. Finally, we see how this data is still retained even when both main power and battery are removed. Remember to comment if you want one of these PCBs for yourself.
