#snsinstitutions #snsdesginthinkers #designthinking The Caesar Cipher is a simple, ancient substitution cipher where each letter in plaintext is shifted a fixed number of positions down the alphabet (the "key"), famously used by Julius Caesar for secure messages. To encrypt, you shift letters forward (e.g., A becomes D with a key of 3), and to decrypt, you reverse the shift. It's easy to use but also easy to break using techniques like frequency analysis. The encryption step performed by a Caesar cipher is often incorporated as part of more complex schemes, such as the Vigenère cipher, and still has modern application in the ROT13 system. As with all single-alphabet substitution ciphers, the Caesar cipher is easily broken and in modern practice offers essentially no communications security.
