Duocel® Separators – Proven to Increase Efficiency

Duocel® has been proven to have superior separation capabilities in rotating systems by orders of magnitude compared to traditional systems. This simple demonstration shows a traditional paddlewheel design, versus a rotating disk of Duocel® Aluminum open celled Foam. The structure Duocel® creates a tortuous path for the water under rotation, almost preventing the water from passing through, while still allowing air through. The paddlewheel contacts the water far less often and water is free to pass through the rotating disk. This allows Duocel® to operate at lower required rotational speeds, and vastly improve separation efficiency across all engine and motor speeds. A good example of a separator using this technology is for Air-Oil Separators (sometimes called de-oilers) used in the auxiliary gearboxes of aircraft engines. They are also used to help control harmful emissions from exhaust systems on ships and other machinery.
